Before we had the Internet, before AOL and CompuServ, computer nerds like myself back in the 80’s and 90’s used computers and modems to communicate and play games together. We used what was called Bulletin Board Systems and I was infatuated with these computer communication systems from an early age. Throughout the 90’s until the Internet really took off I ran a very large BBS system called The Traveler BBS in Virginia and later in Philadelphia with as many as 30 phone lines coming into my house to accommodate as many people being online at a time as we could. Similar to the automobile killing the buggy whip business, the Internet really obsoleted bulletin board systems, but in 2002 I took my computer and communication expertise and started Green Olive Tree.
Because I come from a long line of entrepreneurs, I can relate to the challenges facing small businesses. I have trained my team to understand that real customer service is putting ourselves in our clients’ shoes and thinking like a business owner. If I had to wrap up what we do in one sentence it would be that we design and implement hosting solutions. I get to create solutions that solve peoples’ problems. It is challenging and very rewarding.
